Dr. Brauer’s research emphasis is on linkages between the built environment and human health, with specific interest in transportation-related and biomass air pollution, the global health impacts of air pollution and the relationships between multiple exposures mediated by urban form (air pollution, noise, greenness) and population health.

Dr. Brauer is a co-PI on the project “CANUE – Canadian Consortium for the Urban Environment” and co-investigator on the project “Programmatic research to understand how modifiable environmental factors interact with the genome in the development of asthma,” both funded by CIHR.
