Dr. Laprise is working to identify the genetic and environmental factors—such as breastfeeding, smoking, exposure to allergens, or work-related exposures—that contribute to the risk of developing major respiratory disorders as asthma and allergic rhinitis. She is also interested in the variants associated with asthma and allergy that are harder to find (i.e., rare variants) and in combining different approaches used to measure genetic factors in order to identify the most promising genes.
