CHILD Co-Director Dr. Stuart Turvey wins Leadership Award

The Pediatric Chairs of Canada (PCC) has announced that Dr. Stuart Turvey, Co-Director of CHILD and leader of the Study’s Vancouver site, is a 2024 recipient of its Pediatric Academic Leadership Award (Clinician Practitioner).

The Pediatric Academic Leadership Awards, comprised of a trophy presented at an awards reception, recognizes excellence and leadership within specific pediatric career paths. The award in the category of Clinician Practitioner is awarded to “a clinician whose clinical practice has served as an outstanding environment for the education of trainees and the advancement of practice through knowledge translation and dissemination, as well as leadership within the discipline.”

Winners are nominated by Chairs of the Department of Pediatrics in Canada and selected by a committee consisting of five past Chairs of Pediatrics in Canada.

As well as co-directing CHILD and leading its Vancouver site, Dr. Turvey is a Professor of Pediatrics at UBC, where he holds the Aubrey J. Tingle Professorship in Pediatric Immunology. He is also a clinician-scientist and Pediatric Immunologist based at BC Children’s Hospital and holds a Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Precision Health. He was recently awarded the  2024 Career Research Award by the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) and the UBC Killam Research Prize.

Founded in 1960 as the Assembly of Canadian University Pediatric Department Heads and incorporated as the Pediatric Chairs of Canada (PCC) in 2002, PCC represents the Departments of Pediatrics within 17 Canadian medical schools and provides national leadership in research and education to promote the health and healthcare of children and youth in Canada.
