CHILD breast milk researchers receive Research Manitoba awards

Drs Taiana Martins and Sarah Reyes Paredes have been awarded Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowships by Research Manitoba and CHRIM to study CHILD breast milk.

Dr. Taiana Martins (left), Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, University of Manitoba, received a Fellowship in the amount of $44,100 to support her research into “Extracellular vesicles in breast milk and the developmental origins of asthma.” 

Dr. Martins works in the lab of Dr. Ayesha Saleem.

Dr. Sarah Reyes Paredes (right), Department of Pediatrics and Child Health (Medicine), Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, received a Fellowship in the amount of $44,100 to support her research into “Human milk components and the nasal microbiota as causal factors in the prevention of wheezing and ear infections during the first year.” Dr. Reyes Paredes works in the lab of Dr. Meghan Azad.

Both Fellowships are funded by the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM).

Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowships support highly qualified postdoctoral trainees to prepare for careers as independent researchers. These exceptional trainees significantly increase the productivity of the research programs with which they are affiliated.
