The feature documentary film “Let Them Eat Dirt: The Hunt for our Kids’ Missing Microbes,” featuring CHILD research results and CHILD researchers, can now be viewed in its entirety for free online.

The film’s creators released it on YouTube on the occasion of World Microbiome Day (27 June).

The film explores the role of the human microbiome—the community of microorganisms living in and on our bodies—in our health. In particular, it explores how the impoverishment of the microbiome may be linked to an increase in the prevalence of many maladies, including asthma and allergies, and what we can do to reverse this trend.

CHILD participating families in Vancouver and Edmonton were treated to special screenings of the film in 2019 and 2020.

The film is based on the bestselling book of the same title by CHILD researchers Drs B. Brett Finlay and Marie-Claire Arrieta and is informed by their ground-breaking research using CHILD data.
