It takes a village to raise a CHILD, they say.
A “village” really meaning a community – a collective with shared interests, whose members feel valued and connected.
Over the years, CHILD leaders and staff have done their best to nourish this sense of community, especially among Study participants.
This page celebrates the things we have done – beyond enabling research – together, as a village.
To date, CHILD has held three national contests with its participants.
2019: CHILD’s Poster Competition challenged participants to create posters about the Study: its findings and/or their experience with it. There were 220 submissions, with 5 prizes awarded (one national, one for each Study site).
2021: CHILD’s Arts Contest invited works of artistic expression in any form about the Study. Over 85 submissions were received, spanning videos, recorded performances, 2D and 3D art, as well as creative writing. Again, 5 prizes were awarded (one national, one for each Study site).
2024: CHILD’s “Winter Giveaway” saw hundreds of Study participants (parents and youth) earn entries into a draw by fulfilling their clinic visits. Eight prizes were awarded at each Study site with one grand prize at the national level.
The CHILD Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) Advisory Committee aims to ensure that CHILD research findings are effectively used to benefit society.
Committee members provide strategic guidance toward ensuring that the Study’s actionable findings are accessible to key stakeholders including parents, policymakers, healthcare providers, and community advocates.
Members represent a range of experience and expertise, and include CHILD participant parents.
The Committee meets online for 90 minutes once every 6 months.
Meetings are facilitated by CHILD leaders and staff.
