CHILD Cohort Study (CHILD) trainee Sarah Turner has been named a 2020 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship recipient.
Sarah is a PhD student in the Max Rady College of Medicine’s Department of Community Health Sciences and in the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba. She is also a member of the Azad Lab, led by CHILD investigator Dr. Meghan Azad.
Sarah’s PhD thesis focuses on breastfeeding, human milk composition and childhood behaviour outcomes among CHILD participants. Her research will use CHILD data to explore how individual components of breastmilk, such as certain fats, carbohydrates and microbes, as well as social factors related to breastfeeding, are related to child cognitive development
Vanier scholarships are considered the Canadian equivalent of the United Kingdom’s Rhodes Scholarships. These awards recognize students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies. Each recipient receives $150,000 over three years toward his or her doctoral research.
