ADVANCING SCIENCE

Your contributions to CHILD have fuelled research that is providing new insights into the early-life origins of health and disease

Many of these insights relate to asthma and allergic disease—the original focus of the Study.

However, the incredible depth and detail of CHILD data is increasingly allowing insights into many other areas of physical and mental health and development.

CHILD research has also helped pioneer or accelerate newer areas of study.

The Key Discoveries section of the CHILD website highlights over 50 scientific advances that have emerged from the Study.

For each discovery, a one-page summary and an infographic are provided.

Publications 2009-2024

In peer-reviewed scientific journals

No Data Found

CHILD research using your data has been published in over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, as of early 2025

This includes articles in some of the most respected, high-impact, leading health science journals, such as Science Translational Medicine and Nature.

Some of these articles have won awards or been singled our by journal editors for their importance (like this and this one).

As well as representing important new knowledge in themselves, these published studies also serve a stepping stones to further discoveries by other researchers.

IMPACTING REAL LIFE

Beyond advancing science, these CHILD findings—based on your data and samples—have already had many real-life impacts

They have:

    • influenced health guidelines, medical practices and parenting choices;
    • opened the path to new forms of disease treatment, management and prevention;
    • produced practical new tools for healthcare practitioners and researchers; and
    • expanded public awareness about many health-influencing factors—by being featured in books, documentary films, and news headlines.
